ABOUT BEC

Rebecca grew up in and around Berry, and has many happy memories of her grandparent’s local farm, camping at the beach with friends and having the freedom to explore all the that south coast has to offer.

Happily living in Sydney, while on one of her frequent trips home to visit family, she started to develop a greater appreciation for the area with its breathtaking scenery, and relaxed lifestyle. She remembers the moment she decided to return, “Driving out the South end of Gerringong, on the scenic route passing Walkers beach and golf course, looking one way towards the endless ocean and the other towards the rolling green foothills, It was a sunny day and sky was the most amazing blue, I took a breath and smiled, I wanted to be here again.”

In an almost too good to be true moment, Rebecca noticed her favourite building – The original blacksmiths workshop - was empty, an idea immediately formed in her mind and there was no looking back. Within a few weeks a lease was signed and concept designs for the stores extensive internal renovation and fit out were finalised. Rebecca coordinated the work whist on a quick trip to two of the worlds great shopping cities – London and New York - and opened in December 2007.

So after living in Sydney for several years, Rebecca returned to the South Coast to establish Roots and Wings Design. It was a move which surprised herself as well as her friends and family, but like many others who have made similar moves, she couldn’t be happier. One of the unexpected bonuses of opening the store Rebecca Says “has been connecting with so many amazing people, making new friends with both locals and customers who pass through the store & sharing the products I love”.
